Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Ultra Smooth Pressed Powder (Shade ‘Deep’- 04) Review

May 29, 2013 Setu 16 Comments

On a fine day I was looking for Mac kohls so I entered Shoppers Stop. Unfortunately, that outlet did not stack Mac but fortunately I got drifted along the Elizabeth Arden counter looking for a pressed powder (Compact). Yes, I bought an amazing piece of a little expensive pressed powder. But it did not pinch much. Why? Because, the SA handed over two decent sized samples from the newly introduced range of ‘Elizabeth Arden Visible Skin Difference’. They were Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Lotion SPF 15 (reviewed here) and Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream (will post review soon).

My Rendezvous with Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Ultra Smooth Pressed Powder (Shade ‘Deep’- 04)

I stumbled over this product when I was about to set out for a vacation in Thailand. So I needed a trust worthy compact which gives me a natural look yet makes my skin tone even, stays for long ,freshens up my face with a touch up when I am outdoor and does not irritate my skin. Now, my skin lies in the range of normal to oily, very sensitive, with some post acne marks and it may break out if it doesn’t like a product. So the first thing I checked was if it is non-comedogenic. Yes it was :). The journey to purchase from here on was easy.

Packaging: The packaging is kind of royal, with a good quality mirror for witnessing the touch ups. The lid of the compact has a mirror like shine which adds to the bling factor. There is a golden button, on pressing which the magic box opens. Altogether, even before the actual application you will make up your mind that there is something good in store for you (It’s biased, I know :)).

Usage Experience: To begin with (in the sequence of my experience); the product lives to its claim of being silky smooth. The application gives a feeling of brushing your cheeks with feather. Both the texture of the puff and the pressed powder contribute to this luxurious feeling. I gently dab it over my face giving special attention to the T zone. I hate the artificial fairness that some compacts give so I limit application to some dabbing only. It very lightly blends into your skin making your skin tone even and yet not giving a heavy feeling of any makeup application. It wipes off unnecessary shine off your skin but does not rip off the moisture. It also succeeds in camouflaging some flaws (few acne marks in my case) to a good extent. The SA had asked me to use a wet puff for application if I wanted to use it as a concealer / enjoy a mild foundation look. I tried this one day and it worked. However, I try and stay away from any unnatural complexion elevation or foundation per say. So I may not put the pressed powder to this use often but I would like to tell you the SA was not wrong. It can be for a mild concealer effect. The skin remains shine free and fresh-like for 3-4 hours if you are outdoor. In office, where I am comfortable in the air conditioner the performance is better. And yes, it did not irritate my skin. If I have to sum this up, I would say I am happy with the compact.

See the after application image below which hides some of my vein lines as well!!!

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Ultra Smooth Pressed Powder after Application

Pros:

  • Attractive royal packaging

  • Has a ‘press’ button to open which prevents it from spilling by opening up accidently

  • Good quality mirror facilitating touchup outdoors

  • Gives a literal silky smooth feeling on application

  • Very light on skin after application

  • Evens your skin tone to an extent

  • Freshens up your face instantly

  • Absorbs the unwanted shine from the skin

  • Doesn’t form the dreaded cake like thing on your face

  • Tones down the skin flaws even on light application

  • Can be used as a concealer if applied wet

  • Provides a nice natural matt look to your skin

  • Non-comedogenic

  • Demagogically tested

Cons:

  • Expensive (considering that not so long life of compact once it slips your hand and the cake breaks)

  • It is kind of heavy, increasing the weight of my purse

  • Has paraben

Will I re-purchase again?

Yes. (But I hope this one lasts long and doesn’t break soon giving me a heart break :P)

Would I recommend it to others?

Yes. If you are looking for a compact which doesn’t irritate your skin, feels light and does not give a made up fairness looks, this should not disappoint you.
