Skittlette Nail Art - Guest Post by Daphne

June 26, 2013 Setu 11 Comments

Hi All,

Remember, I was asking for guest posts few days back. Daphne from the Daisy NailArt was the first to respond :). We shared a few emails quickly and I expressed my desire to see what a Skittlette Nail Art is. I had no idea and it was making so much noise around. But unfortunately even Daphne was not aware :(. But you would not believe the lightening speed with which she dug around , researched and came up with what this Skittlette Nail art is!!!Not only that, within few hours she sent me her nail art along with the post. So sweet of her to that. Please visit her blog Daisy NailArt to check out her work, I am sure you will love it :)

Skittlette Nail Art - Guest Post by Daphne

Setu was asking on here blog if someone was interested in a guest blog. She asked this because she is a little bit busy. I was excited about it so I send here a email.

She asked if I've ever heard of skittlette mani. I had really now clue.  After surfing on the Internet I found it.
If you want to know more about the skittlette mani take a look on this site: http://www.chitchatnails.com/

I had a animal print pants on. With a white tank top. And I am always wearing my Guess watch.
So this was my starting point for the skittlette mani.

Nail Art Basics - What are Rhinestones and how to use them?

June 25, 2013 Setu 8 Comments

Hi Fellas,

I am going to take you through another cute nail art accessory today. They are called Rhinestones. They are small, colorful and blingy nail art accessory that beautify your nails instantly. They come in various shapes (round, hearts, drops, diamond, stars, bow knot etc) ,sizes (1 mm on wards) and finishes (blingy , pearl etc). Basically there is a vast variety of choices that you can exercise as per your taste and nail size. There is also 'Studs' that I see getting very popular these days. I have a few studs that I won in the Nail Art remake challenge. I have used them in a nail art I did for my sister's friend. I am yet to post it and then you can check for yourself :) These are great for creating 3D Nail Art.

This is the Bride's Veil in Blue Nail Art I did using Flower rhinestone ( I got them from Thailand).

The Bride's Veil in Blue Nail Art

I have a huge pack of round rhinestones (mix of pearl and blingy finish) and I love them. Whenever you feel you nail art is looking dull or not as exciting as it should be please take help of a rhinestone. They will never disappoint you. Following are few pictures of rhinestones that I used from the Bornprettystore website. I thought of putting up my own stocks click but they did not picture as brilliant as these. And when I am trying to give an idea, I better go with the best!!

What is Rhinestone Rhinestones in Pearl Finish

But his is not fare!!! As I am writing about them and collating brilliant pictures for you guys, I am getting a strong urge to purchase them  . I have a good collection of round, blingy, pearl finish, studs, drops, flowers, stars, butterfly etc. And I have not used them even 5% and still these pictures are tempting me :(. I think, I may place an order for the bow one in a couple of days!!!

Rhinestone Bow Shape Rhinestone Studs

Moving on How to Use them : You need have something adhesive to stick them to your nails. Now some people use clear nail paint for the purpose. The rhinestone is dropped on the wet paint and it automatically sticks when the paint dries up. While others (including me) use a nail glue to get them on. They are much stronger adhesive than clear nail polish so your rhinestones definitely stay longer. But the choice should depend on how long you want the rhinestones to be with you. If it just for a party or an occasion, just use a clear polish. But if you intend to wear them for longer I would suggest some nail art glue. I got my nail art glue(VOV) from the 'Beauty Centre' in Mumbai. For the rest you could head to local online stores or bornprettystore. But as I said, if its just for a day use do not bother much, glue is needed if you them to stay longer.

But be careful, they are strong adhesive so try not touching them with hands. And also do not drop them on your clothes. Yes! I did that, I dropped few big drops on my pants and they never came off!!!! Me, my maid and the washing machine all gave up!! So careful girls (I wish someone gave me this advice before I started using them!)

Rhinestone Wax Pencil

Wax Pencil : Another tool you may need to help you with rhinestones is wax pencil. I do not have them yet but I am buying them very soon. They are pencils with wax instead of lead. They help you pick up rhinestones with ease and place them on your nails. You could also use a tweezers but it isn't helping me much. So I am onto buying some wax pencils. I am not sure if its available online in India, so I will looking towards bornpretty store or look for some other store which does free international shipping . This is what a wax pencil looks like and you could buy it here (this is the only place I know about now).

Where to buy them: Some common kind of rhinestones like round or stars (both blingy and pearl) are easier to find around. I got few from a general store :). But if you want variety like studs, bow, heart etc and if you do not ebay, only BornPretty Store can save you :) . I shall be buying the bow ones (which are missing in my collection) next week may be. You could enjoy a 10% discount on all orders if you use my discount code HQBQ10.

With all that, I think I covered pretty much on all I know about rhinestones and where to get them and how to use them. If you still have any questions or some information that I missed here, please let me know. I hope this post was helpful for you guys. I had been postponing this post along with other nail art basics posts waiting for me to use the tools or accessory I am posting about and then upload my nail pictures in the posts. But that has not been happening since I may not use the same accessory or method my post is on for some or the other reason. So I chose a easier method where I am just going to use Google images or bornpretty images to show you what they are. This should make things quick.

Also let me know if you want me cover any specific nail art tool/accessory or method. I will try my best to elaborate them for you :)

Traditional Indian Lehenga Inspired Nail Art

June 21, 2013 Setu 15 Comments

Hi Friends, I did this nail art for a guest post at Short and Sweet in Texas. Julie had given out a shout for guest post on her blog and I knew I was sending mine. :)

I chose this nail art in particular because it kind of describes my origin and country. The Nail Art is inspired by a traditional Indian outfit called ‘Lehenga’ which are bright , colorful and glittery long skirt, coupled with a designer blouse (Choli) and long feminine scarf (Dupatta) to wrap around and flaunt. I have added some tribal nail art appeal to it to make it look more of traditional than modern. I am very fond of a ‘Lehenga’ although I only worn them once for my wedding. They are bright, colorful, shiny and extremely elegant.

Hi, I was actually writing this nail art post when strong feelings embraced me and I ended up writing 'The Story behind The Nail Art and Beauty Diaries'. But I am so glad I actually wrote it and shared my story. It is lengthy but I am sure you will relate to it :)

Let me ask you a quick question before the nail art: Do you sometimes feel contempt and happy with what you have at present?? But immediately after this good feeling sinks in and you look towards future you think there is still so much left to achieve!!!You thought you will be able to complete this wish list by this age but there is still so much undone :( :(. I got similar feelings while drafting this post.

Hi Lovely People.

As some you might be already aware, I am joining my new office from 4th July 2013. And so that I don't get aged and die travelling to my new work, I am shifting to a new place also :). So I have to manage packing, unpacking , clearance from my current employer and joining my new job starting this month end :(. I know it is going to be crazy :( :( :(

I may even be off internet for a few days :( :(. So giving you a background of how topsy-turvy my world will be in the coming days, I am gonna ask if anyone is interested in a 'Guest Post' on related topic (nail art, beauty and likes). This help me take time to settle and get in frame of mind where I can be creative again :)

The Story behind -'The Nail Art and Beauty Diaries'

June 14, 2013 Setu 24 Comments

Hi Fellas,

I am not sharing any nail art or product reviews or beauty stuff today. I feel like sharing some of my random feelings today. I am not sure if we all feel the same way or if you will relate to it. :(. I agree the post is longer than usual but I would request you to go through it. It not tells my story but also share few realities of life that I learnt. At the end you would have a feel good factor and probably answers to a few questions.

Story behind The Nail Art and Beauty Diaries

Actually, I started this article to write a tutorial for another nail art of mine. But as I started penning down a few words saying how much I have been wanting to do this nail art for so long, these thoughts started rushing in like breeze and I could not control the urge to vent them out to you.

Do you sometimes stumble upon your past randomly but end up getting engrossed in some deep thoughts, trying to figure out how you reached here?? Do you feel wonder like  had that not happened I would not have been here?? I thought it was the worst of my life but good that it happened or I would have never got this?? Do you think on these lines?? Do you sometimes feel unlucky at one point in present but the same thing makes you feel lucky when you look back at it?

My Second Versatile Blogger Award

June 12, 2013 Setu 24 Comments

Hi Amigos,

Today while writing this post I am recalling the days when I just started blogging (not long back) and I would see lots of awards on sidebars of bloggers. I used to often wonder what are these and how does one get these?? I was so curious for days together, that I did a Google search to find out which "fairy" gave this award and I definitely wanted to be the chosen one :) .

And today I am writing the second post on my second Versatile Blogger Award :D :D. Time flies by and hard work pays is all I can say. It is not some award given by serious nerd jury but by a fellow blogger who thought your blog worthy of it. Does it decrease the value of these awards, because it is not given by a jury, there is no trophy and it is not announced on a national television???

Well I think NO. We blog for readers and we exist because of them. And if they think you deserve this, the purpose of our existence is achieved. Without 'Likes', 'Comments' and of course readers; we feel like being on a desert without food and water :( :(. Yes likes, follows, comments and shares are food to bloggers. I hope we all will agree on this. Therefore, I thanks all the readers and fellow bloggers to hold my hands and get me here :)

Anyways, I would waste time and sincerely thank Buy All The Colors to nominate me :). She has a great blog herself so way to go girl!!:)

The Crackle or Shatter Nail Art

June 12, 2013 Setu 19 Comments

Easy at Home Nail Art 24 – The Caribbean Ice Berg

June 09, 2013 Setu 20 Comments

Hi All, I have another cute and easy nail art to share today. I did this nail art for my younger sister again; she is my canvas when I am short of mine :). I was getting late for movie and she was too tired after work but we managed to get a pretty nail art. I went to her place and she was wearing only solo colored nail paint. How could she? The base color was so pretty that I could not resist splashing some designs on it. Now my sister isn't very comfortable with loud colors and noticeable nail arts so I tried my best to use colors of similar hues to keep the tone down.

I WON the Nail Art Remake Challenge !!!!!!

June 06, 2013 Setu 19 Comments

Hi All,

I guess these days either I am getting lucky or I am working hard :D. First I won  the Nail Art Competition hosted my Nail Artisan where I submitted my Cookie Monster Nail Art :) :). And now I am here to celebrate and share another win :) :)

I won

Few days back I participated in a Nail Art Giveaway which not a raffle copter entry (Thank God) but a nail art remake entry :). I only won where criteria was nail art :) :). So with this hope I did send a couple of nail art remakes to enter the Giveaway :). And guess what, I WON!!!

Margriet wanted to make sure the give away to go to a person who is serious or passionate about nail art. Through out our communication, this was very evident. How sweet!! I wish all the giveaways are in form of some competition (I don't think luck will ever make me win-- I hate you raffle copter). Anyways, I think a combination of both is good, some luck and some hard work :)

She had a lotssss of nail art designs to chose from her gallery and all were equally great. And every time I doubted my self, I would visit her Giveaway page to re-read the prize list and it would be a spark of energy :) :). I thank Margriet for giving me opportunity :)

The Men in Black n Blue Nail Art

June 05, 2013 Setu 12 Comments

Hi All,

I am up with a very easy, simple yet stylish nail art today. When I was about to leave for work last friday, I had bare black painted nails. And my regular readers and friends know how much I hate plain painted nails. So while I had like 10 minutes to go. I decided that I must do something on my nails. But it had to relate to blue since I was wearing blue :) . So with limited choices that blue and the 1 minutes gave me, I came up with this. This is not the best and prettiest nail art but c'mon you don't expect to change the world in 10 minutes

My Experience with Zee TV Connected HumTum IndiBlogger Meet

June 02, 2013 Setu 13 Comments

Hi All,

This post is to share my experience in the 'Zee TV Connected IndiBlogger Meet' which I had been wanting to do since the second I stepped in the event :) :)For all those who are not aware what I am talking about, here is the kick start:

What is Indiblogger : It is a platform which brings all bloggers from India together, gets them interacting with each other, share experiences, make friends and network . It brings you readers, acts as motivator, brings Indian Bloggers together (IndiMeets), brings blogs and brands together and is a warm family. It also assigns rank (the higher the score, the higher ranking you have) based on various parameters, which is a reality check for us. My score is 80/100 which is not bad for a 4 month old blog :D :D :D :D . Read about them in media here.

What is Zee TV Connected HumTum : Six courageous women of different ages and at different stages in their lives, have dared to bare it all - their hopes, worst fears, insecurities, mistakes, triumphs, joys and sorrow - on national television for the world to see! And what has emerged is a vibrant picture of what is being a woman in the year 2013 is all about - a fresh, first-of-its-kind reality series called Connected Hum Tum featured on Zee TV (Indian National Television). It will be aired from 3rd June at 10 pm (Mon-Fri).

Connected Hum Tum

My Experience : The event was held in the ballroom of The Leela, Mumbai which was an amazing place in itself. We entered and did a self registration (pretty smooth process) and occupied lovely seats. Just when I was wondering what next, the host/anchor (I do not know his name but I appreciate his wittiness and sense of humor) threw life to the event by hosting small little competitions and activities for which you would receive gifts. OMG, each one of forgot our ages and we were all kids once again :) :). Doesn't matter what was packed inside those shiny boxes, we all wanted them.

After a long stint with small activities I finally won the shiny box for sitting at the table which had equal number of guys n girls :D :D. It had a webcam for desktop :).

Then, we had the '30 Seconds of Fame', where a software picked up random bloggers and they would get a chance to introduce them to the group. Well, my name did not pop up :( . But something amazing happened here,I got to know something about the blogging fraternity which I would have not known otherwise. I always thought its the young internet generation that blogs but I was amazed to see a mother-daughter blogger duo, two young 14 yr old brother-sister duo who have multiple blogs, a poet who is also an MBA, a therapist, a person who came all the way from Surat to attend the meet, half the crowd that had bunked office & College to attend the meet and so on. After getting to know them, I definitely felt more respectful as a blogger. Contrary to the belief that people who have lot of spare time and any else to do blog ; people who blog are the ones who do not have time but they make time to blog and have a long list of things that they could have done but have chosen to blog and follow their heart :). I had a heart felt pride and confidence at that moment.

Indiblogger Zee TV Connected HumTum Meet

Then, we met the six courageous women and let me tell you each one was unique yet they looked like they are one of us. They were different yet similar,  and away yet near. We were shown the introductory teaser and an episode which I was not expecting to be fun. Yes, I was correct it was NOT fun because I did not feel away from any of the characters for a second to have fun, I felt like I could be anyone of them. Seeing the women behave in some situations, I  was like OMG I do exactly the same, I know what it feels like, I have been there and similar feelings. Now, I hate reality shows because they are morphed, scripted and stupid but this one seemed like a 'Real' show and not 'Reality'. I could specially feel for the character 'Preeti' who is a successful dentist, passionate belly dancer, a wife and a mother. It was just revisiting our reactions to similar situation :) . It was enlightening as well as engrossing.

Indiblogger Zee TV Connected HumTum Meet

Indiblogger Zee TV Connected HumTum Meet

Anyways, I am not sure on how long I can go on and on this ( I am a great talker)  but I am very sure since last evening that I am definitely participating in all Indiblogger meets and I am not sharing the remote with my husband @ 10pm weekdays :P :P :P

Question to Readers: Has there been a moment which made you felt more proud of blogging?? Have you ever felt the stereotype pressure doubting the capability of you as a blogger??Have you heard about Indiblogger or Connected HumTum??

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream Review

June 02, 2013 Setu 1 Comments

I got this night cream as a sample with ‘Elizabeth Arden Pressed powder (reviewed here). I also got the ‘Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Lotion SPF 15’ (reviewed here) along with it. In my opinion it’s a good idea to use the same product range to see maximum benefits. So I started using this night cream along with the day lotion hoping to witness a ‘Visible difference’.

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream

Product Claims: Works while you sleep to deliver balanced hydration for a radiant, luminous look. Clinically and dermatologist tested. Non Comedogenic.

Usage Instruction: Smooth onto cleansed face and throat at night.

What it contains (Ingredients): Water/Aqua/Eau, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Glyceryl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Tridecyl Salicylate, Caprylyl Methicone, Cetyl Ricinoleate, Dipentaerythrityl Hexacaprylate/Hexacaprate, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Peg-100 Stearate, Isododecane, Cetyl Alcohol, Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Retinyl Linoleate, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Neopentyl Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Tridecyl Stearate, Sodium Pca, Trehalose, Urea, Lecithin, Laureth-7, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyquaternium-51, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Polyacrylamide, Polyethylene, Disodium Edta, Mica, Tin Oxide, Parfum/Fragrance, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool, Benzoic Acid, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Propylparaben, Sorbic Acid, Chlorphenesin, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).

Price: I got it as sample (Market price is approx Rs 2300 for 50 ml)

Quantity: 7 ml (I have two of this and have been using it for over a month now)

My Rendezvous with Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream

When I got this sample I was not settled with what night cream I should use, so I gladly opened my arms and welcomed it whole heartedly. Also, since I was happy with the pressed powder of the same brand I was feeling a little positive about it.

Packaging: Since this is a sample it comes in a very cute small tub. The full sized product also looks stunning with silver tub. As soon as I opened the tub I was happy to see the rich crème inside. It was like someone had whipped the cream so it looked light with a couple of large bubbles inside. One has to dip fingers to the tub to get the product out which may be non-appealing for many. At this time I was not bothered with ease of application but the ‘Visible difference’ after effects so I didn’t bother.

Usage Experience: I started applying it from the night I got it. It has a pleasant smell which I even my husband noticed (that’s an achievement). The look of the cream it so glazy, rich and thick that one would mistake it to be definitely heavy on skin. To my pleasant surprise it was not. It was light and extremely smooth. I felt like applying satin on my skin. It is very hydrating and nourishing which a night cream must be. It blends with the skin so naturally, 'made for each other types’ J .In the morning when I woke up, my skin felt happy and nourished. There was some shine of course but one shouldn’t expect a night cream with a matte finish. The shine goes off after washing face.

But again I did not see any visible difference. The cream is good in its place with amazing consistency, silky smooth, delicious fragrance, wholesome nourishment and prolonged hydration. But it doesn’t prove the claim true.  I know it’s a tall claim-‘Visible difference’ but the cream should at least achieve a half of what it said. Sadly, it didn’t do much. At best my skin feels good after application with no visible difference. I have read reviews where some people did see difference but the same didn’t happen to me. I have been using this one for a month now. Even though the quantity mentioned is 7 ml, it seems to be non ending. I used the first tub for like 20 days or more. I am on the second tub now which was practically my sister’s sample. However, I am not hopeful that even second tub with some cream remaining in it will make any difference.

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream blob

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Night Cream after application

  • Extremely nourishing for the skin

  • Non greasy and non sticky

  • Hydrates the skin for all night long

  • Blends very naturally with the skin

  • Skin feels happy and has healthy glow/shine in the morning

  • Pleasing fragrance

  • A little covers the entire face

  • Non Comedogenic

  • Clinically and dermatologist tested

  • Can’t see any paraben in the ingredient list

  • Did not contribute to any visible difference

  • Bit expensive if the benefit is just hydration

  • Some may not like the tub packaging as the cream gets into the nails L

Will I re-purchase again? Yes, maybe. If I do not find a good night cream, I may settle with it for the time being. The slot for my night cream is empty as of now and this may take its place.

Would I recommend it to others? Yes, if you too have the slot of night cream empty and the expectation from a night cream is a healthy hydration. If one already has a HG night cream stick to it, this is not worth a change.

Rating: 3/5 (-2 for no visible difference and still charging a bomb)
