Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item

June 27, 2014 Setu 12 Comments

Hi Girls, I am here on the last week of STNChallenge and the theme is "Inspired by HouseHold Item". Now this was the theme that I had been waiting the most because it opens endless possibilties of inspiration. And I have so many inspirations lying around in my house itself, my dresses, curtains, bedsheet, paintings, curtains, cushion and what not.

[caption id="attachment_3638" align="alignnone" width="355"]Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item Vase for Inspiration[/caption]

But eventually by the day I had to work on this theme, things in the nail world were not in good shape (I mean literally too, check the shape of my nails :P ). My nails turned yellow suddenly , I think it was a polish stain. I did all possible, but it wont go. So I got annoyed and chopped my nails to half the lenght. And thus my motivation for nail art also got chopped to half :(. As if this was not enough, with half motivation when I decided to still work on my nails, I saw the corner of middle finger nails has broken and fallen off :( :( :(. God! I was like furious and helpless at the same time :(. So with all this crazy background and some amount of shoulder and neck pain due to excessive straining in office, I came up with this.

Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item

Statutory Warning : I am very disappointed in the nail art. I usually am not so bad. I have smeared polish and blurry prints on nails, but please stick along. I will try to do a nail art next which will not hurt your eyes like this one :(.

Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item

Anyways, I am such a drama queen, moving on to the nail art. This is inspired by a vase in the living room. No, the vase isnt as ugly as my nail art. Its my nail art pulling down my vase :(. I used Bundle Monster CYO plate to do stripes.

Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item

  • Envy Polish 'Laminate Me' for the Off White Polish in background.

  • BM CYO Plate No 411 to get Vertical Stripes with Orange first.

  • Used the same design now with blue to get horizontal lines.

  • Top Coated with Seche Vite.

Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item

If you see the vase and compare closely, I have deliberatly missed few patterns. The reason is my learning from past inspired nail arts , which is not trying to repliacte exact designs or prints from painting/inspiration item.Because the size of the nails and the inspiration item are on two ends. Last time, I tried to squish all the patterns exactly on my one inch nail, and it was messy. So this time I decided to just pick up elements just enough to let the nailart look neat.

Nail Art Inspired by a House Hold Item

This is the last week of the challenge and I am really gonna miss the push and inspiration. I am participating in another daily challenge from July which I am unsure how on earth will I do :P .But still I am gonna try my best. Right now, all I can say is that with dissatisfaction on this nail art, my motivation level is going low. I need to get a nice mani done to bounce back. See you guys with a better nail art hopefully in next post :).

NYX Salon Formula Lacquer Pastel Yellow Review and Swatch

June 23, 2014 Setu 9 Comments

Hi Friends, I am gonna review an old but hit polish today. I have had NYX Pastel Yellow for 6 months and have used it in multiple nail arts. I had been looking for a softer yellow for very long and I saw this on stand in Beauty Centre.

Product Claim : One coat of this pro-favorite polish is all it takes to transform your hands from ho-hum to haute stuff. With so many brilliant, on-trend colors and 10 nail treatments, our Salon Formula system makes it easy to get sexy, salon-quality manis and pedis...without ever leaving home.

NYX Salon Formula Lacquer Pastel Yellow Review

Price and Quantity : Rs 350 for 15 ml (I got it at 50% off from Beauty Centre)

NYX Salon Formula Lacquer Pastel Yellow Review

Color : The color is as the name says "Pastel Yellow". However, had I not seen the bottle I would have expected a softer yellow. This is not a bright sunshine yellow but it is not very soft pastel either. It is somewhere in between. It is a beautiful color no doubt, inspite of being yellow this color manages to be mellow. It is not loud by any measure, so we are good here. I didnot have a similar yellow in my stash so this color was more than welcome. I use it very often in my nail arts as compared to the sunshine yellows which I am hesitant to wear at work.

NYX Salon Formula Lacquer Pastel Yellow Review

Formula and Finish: It is cream based polish, no shimmers or glitters. It dries upto a shiny finish. I am really happy with the formula. The application is very smooth and no streaks. One coat gives opacity, but I prefer two to cover up any misses and reflect the real color. I find it as a very good base for nail art.The staying is also quite good, I went chip free for 6 days. All the pictures are without top coat, as I do for my polish reviews.

Overall Rating : 5/5 . If I had to buy thisd at Rs 350 which is the MRP, I may have taken a pass. But at the price I got it for, it was a no brainer to pick one. If you are looking for a light and soft yellow, long staying polish and Rs 350 isn't a pinch, please go for this :)

PS : The watermark you are seeing for "The NailArt and Beauty Diaries" was my old blog before I moved to this self hosted one. The pictures are mine :P

Nail Art Inspired by Another Nail Artist

June 20, 2014 Setu 15 Comments

Hi Friends, as you might be aware that I am participtaing in the STNChallenges by Anita who herself is a great artist. God, the challenge is making push by limits and break my bones :P . But I am glad that it is really keeping me on my toes for this month.

Nail Art Inspired by Another Nail Artist

I would have survived by taking inspiratin from any of wonderful nail arts by lovely artists around, but over ambitious as I am, I chose a design that I now think was out of my league. Stupid Me!! And obviously when the long back breaking nail art was complete I was dissappointed in my self. And not to forget as if doing it was not enough on one hand I again tried it on both hands, which made the job double difficult. But that's the way I feel satisfied so be it. Anyways my fellow nail art friends were very supportive and encouraged me through out. Its great to have such positive energy around :).

Nail Art Inspired by Another Nail Artist

I took inspiration from the great Jaunty Juli . I saw this design on IG a few months back and had been wanting to do them since then. The challenge was a perfect opportunity to do so :). The nail art is goorgeous no doubt, but it is lengthy na d complicated too. But her video onyoutube made it look so easy, that I fell for it.

Nail Art Inspired by Another Nail Artist

This is how I think I did my Nail Art (Again a series of steps, make me forget what I began with :P ):

  1. Painted my nails white and let it dry.

  2. Taped the tip of the nails, so that I could later paint them tan color.

  3. Sponged it with Maybelline Colorshow Shocking Seas and Hooked on Pink. (I think I should have picked up lighter colors).

  4. Removed the tape and painted the tip in Tan Color, I used Envy Laminate.

  5. Used brown acrylic paint to dot the Tan Tip part

  6. Made colors using acrylic paints just a shade lighter than the nail polish sponged on my nails, which is light pink, purple and light blue.

  7. Started with pink dots, used purple where gradient of pink and blue met each other and then light blue over the blue part.

  8. Made a mint color using Turqiouse color, lime green and white acrylic paints to draw the palm leaves.

  9. Highlighted the tip of Palm Leaves with Lime green Acrylic Paints.

  10. Made a lighter shade of mint green prepared earlier to draw stripes over palm to get texture feel.

  11. Using brown acrylic paint draw trunk for the palm tree and striped it with black.

  12. Took a chrome yellow acrylic paint to draw the sun and dotted it with ornage.

  13. Drew a boat with light blue and mast with light yellow acrylic paint.

  14. Used a lighter blue and lighter yellow to stripe the boat and mast.

  15. Now, the tricky part (as if the all the above steps were not tricky and tiring enough :P ), outlining the palm tree, sun and boat with black acrylic paint. Also partition the tan painted tip of the nail with black stripe.

  16. Now, finally put a top coat and seal your design.

Nail Art Inspired by Another Nail Artist

Inspiration from Jaunty Juli Nail Art

I would not say this was the toughtest design I drew but it was lenghty. The short tutorial itself seems like a lenghty essay :P . Jainty Juli has made it so effortlessly and flawlessly and look at me :( . Really, hats off for her work.

Four Fountain Spa Review

June 17, 2014 Setu 3 Comments

Hi Friends, anyone visiting my blog would know by now that I am deeply madly and truely in love with nail art. Very Close second comes beauty about which I fail to write on a regular basis due to my job, home and nailart :P :P . But there is one thing more that I crave for and they are spas.

I love love love pampering my self and why not, I am stressfully working 6 days a week in office, after office I am wife managing my home and maids, at night with whatever energy I have I am nail artist and blogger. I truely believe I deserve to be pampered and be away from my "Self-Created Mess" once in while. Because a very famous poet once said "What is this Life full of Care, If you have no time to stand and stare"!!.

Anyways, I had been contacted by Four Fountain Spa long back to review their spa, but as I described my life above, I wasnt able to make time :(.Finally, I picked up a date and dropped in Four Fountain Spa Powai. Yes, this was the very next day I returened from Goa. Me and my husband drove down to Goa for our anniversary and we were tired. There was no better way to rejuvinate than a SPA!! :)

Four Fountain Spa Review

I booked my appointment and got an email confirmation immedeatly . Maybe this is not a process and was done because I was coming for review, I am not sure. I entered the Spa 20 minutes late which not usual me, but it was unavoidable. I was feeling very guilty.

Four Fountain Spa Review

They asked me what was I expecting from the Spa instead of leaving me blank and helpless with the Spa Menu . I was very tired so I was looking for some pain relaxation and some exfoliation as well after Goa tanning :P . They recommended me "Signature Green Tea and Scrubassage".

Four Fountain Spa Review

Srubassage : 'Scrubassage' is a combination of a scrub and a massage. It is performed using a special blend of clove and green tea leaves infused in a cream base. Clove is known for its pain relieving properties and reduces soreness of muscles. The fine grains of green tea increase blood circulation and exfoliate dead skin cells. Green tea is rich in anti-oxidants which prevent potential damage from free radicals, thus promoting longevity. We recommend not having a soap bath at the end of a scrubassage.

I am green tea fan, some how I have a reasonable amount of trust on Green Tea benefits. Also, I get easily inclined towards Aroma and fragrance. Correct fragrance sets up right mood and definetly makes a difference to your mental relaxation. I do not like perfumes however, because they seem too artificial, but natural aroma from around the nature definetly lifts up my mood. So my choice was just correct for me.Also, the massage cream had crushed green tea leaves and soothing clove aroma, which was a Wow for me .

Four Fountain Spa Review

I entered the room and it was tastefully done with decent size. The lady (I forgot the name of the girl who gave me the srubassage) asked me to change to disposal undergarments (both upper and lower) which was placed there. Also there was a disposable towel to wrap on it. I have visited Panacea Spa before (a famous spa in Mumbai), and there I was only given a disposable lower. So Four Fountain was a pleasant experience on this front. There was also a separate locker kinna thing to keep my valuables, it also had a lock and key :P.  I appreciate them taking care of this. I have also been to Kaya Clinic on regular basis for some facials and treatments. The locker concept was missing there too.

Four Fountain Spa

Four Fountain Spa Review

In the begining of the therapy itself, she pointed to the clock  showing the time and announcing the expected time of finishing. Just when I was wondering the "Should I"/"Should I not" ask her to concentrate on my foot and back, she "Offered" it. She asked me if there are any pain areas which I would like her to take special care :). Continous feedback about massage pressure and room temperature was taken, making sure I was comfortable at all time.

There were few things which did not impress me though. There was some amount of water which was used during the massage to keep the mixture greezy and easy to work with. Initailly, she used luke warm water which was comforting but later in the air conditioner, the water cooled down and then it felt kind of chilling. Secondly, there was a wall clock in the room which continously made the typical Tic-Toc sound. Since there was silence in the room, the sound was prominent (or I have sensitive ears, I don't know :P ).

The therapy was no doubt very relaxing, un-winding, pampering and rejuvenating. The massage pushed away a lot of pain and stress. There was no head message included, just to clarify. It was body massage only. The Srubassage lasted for around an hour, after which she pointed out the clock again and asked me to check time. I liked the professionalism :).

I was asked to take a shower after the message. The batharea was connected to the room individually. It had both shampoo and body wash. I had to ask for a shower cap, which I think should be placed there already in the first place. Shower was the only option, which is perfectly fine. But not every one wants to wet their hair, right?.

[caption id="attachment_3383" align="alignnone" width="338"]Four Fountain Spa Bathroom Four Fountain Spa Bathroom[/caption]

When I came out of the room, I some how lost track of the time of the day. I was thinking , is it morning or evening kinds :P. Well, this means the therapy was successful in cutting me off from the external world and relaxing :).

I was asked feedback for my massage and also served green tea :). The green tea was in kinna of shot glass and temperature was luke warm. The flavour and taste were really soothing. I  roughly have tasted almost all green teas available in market, but this was something new. On inquiring I came to know it was specifically packed for Four Fountain Spa but was available for sale. The flavour served to me was "Mint and Green Tea". I couldn't buy it though because the manager who had the keys was not around :(.

Four Fountain Spa Review

They have taken utmost care about things like back rest in seating area and door handles too.

Four Fountain Spa

Four Fountain Spa Review

All in all, it was a good experince for me. And I would totally recommend it for their service and professionalism. I would totally love re-vising them. But just a thought, don't they position themselves as "Affordable Spa". The Spa I took was on a bit expensive side (Rs 2209 on Weekdays), as compared to other ones in their menu. It was a signature spa so its okay. But on an average, the cost was around 1700-1900 Plus taxes. I am not saying its expensive, but it is a bit higher for "Affordable". It may be personal opinion. They have different rates for Weekend and Weekdays, so if you are planning a visit (which you should soon :) ), try availing the Weekday Rate benefit. Ohh! and did I tell it is from 9-9? Yes, it functions from 9am to 9pm, isn't it great? We can rush after office too, which is when we need it the most :P.

Anyways, I would give a thumbs up for "Four Fountain Spa". Its reasonably priced if not affordable and the staff is friendly and really pampers you. You know, its really good once in a while to feel good about yourself, be pampered, to cut off with the complex world outside and to indulge in yourself. Trust me, you will feel good. And as I always say "Love yourself, To Love Others".

PS : I was offered complimentry Spa treatment by Four Fountain, however my reviews are honest and based on my experience.

Nail Art Inspired By Painting

June 13, 2014 Setu 13 Comments

Hi Girls, I have been participating in STN Challenges for a few months now. The themes are fab and they make me push my limits each time. I enjoy myself during these challenges, no doubt some of my nailarts for themes fail terribly. But I am not giving up any time soon :P

The theme for this week was "Inspired By A Painting". Now I have 3 paintings at my home, two of mom made and gifted by her and one purchased. But I didn't feel the kick to get them on my nails, maybe because I have been seeing them everyday. I will do nail art inspired by them soon, it's on my To-Do list but last night was not the day.

Nail Art Inspired By Painting

This is again one of those nail arts which was very lengthy like Life Of Pi Inspired Nails where I took hours and did lot of permutation - combinations to get the look. It was confusing and exhausting enough for me to forget how I did and what I did.

Nail Art Inspired By Painting

I will not be able to re-create exactly if asked. But I am sure I will make a better one because I noticed a lot of mistakes with this one :(. I was upset enough to remove and redo at least on one hand. But it was 11 at night and the horror of putting so much more effort over powered me. And my back was like cracking into pieces.

Nail Art Inspired By Painting

This nail art is done on a white nail polish base using all possible colors of acrylic paint to achieve the result. The effects may not be distinctly visible because of the small canvas that a nail is and an imperfect nail artist that I am :(. I enjoy free hand , esp if the result comes out well.

 Nail Art Inspired By Painting

Nail Art Inspired By Painting

I was not sure of what painting to use for inspiration and just could not think for days. Eventually yesterday night I googled lots of painting and stuck on this one. And after facing difficulty in nail art now I think it was not a correct pick :(. It is so difficult anyways to capture the details of huge paintings to micro nails. It was fun though. I did mistakes and learnt from them as well :).

The painting I took cues from is below and is a form of knife painting (as updated by one of my friends who has knowledge of it). That is the reason when I was trying to replicate the background patchiness with brush I was failing. But overall, I have tried to capture the essence :)

Nail Art Inspired by Painting

Nail Art Inspired By Painting

I did nail art on both hands, I so wanted to take a pass on right hand but my heart wouldn't allow. My hubby was suggesting at the end , I should do only one hand. So that I could focus more and use all energy and concentration to one and the results would be better. I agree, had I just done one hand, I am sure I would have done better. I am anyways left with little stamina after office and routine house hold responsibilities exhaust me even more. So, it makes sense if I do only one hand. Also doing with non dominant hand is double exhausting. But I am still not convinced if I should do one hand only.

Nail Art Inspired by Painting

What do you guys say? One hand or both? What would you love to see more? And don't forget to tell me how you feel about my nail art. I hope you like it.

Girls and esp polish lovers can't stop talking about it and flaunting it. I have 6 of them now (planning to the remaining two also :P ), and I am restless to wear and flaunt them on my blog. But I don't like just swatching and not reviewing, so had to be patient to see the performance on my nails for a couple of days.

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

This is a picture heavy post since glitters and textures are camera shy. They barely show up their true selves infront of camera :P

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

Color : Red is a very tricky color and you either get it right or you don't. I know so many brands that leave red looking like a street side commoners red. For the same reason, I was very sure Red Carpet is not the color I will pick. But when I opened the bottle in shop, I knew in nano second, this was no commoners red and Maybelline had nailed it. It is a gorgeous and ravishing red. It has golden, red and pink shimmers. I have seen glitter reds with silver or gold shimmers and are so cliche. But the addition of pink and red shimmers takes it to other level literally. I have never been more overjoyed with a red. It is like a bright blingy red, which inspite of being a shimmery red maintains its class and sophistication. It leans towards crimson more than maroon or blood red. It is a popping red which makes you happy. The end color on nails also by no measure is run of the mill red, its different. My colleagues at work were so curious by the color :). The color is perfect for traditional indian outfits and even bridal nails. I did a nail art on this that I will share in next post. It is so apt for brides. I wish I had this at my wedding :P

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

Finish and Formula : When I bought this polish I was totally unaware about the finish of the polish. The PR and press release was weirdly done. No one was aware what it was supposed to look like. I asked on their IG, if finish was matte, texture or shimmer; the answer for finish was "Glitter All The Way". What am I supposed to understand by that? Anyways, with no clue of what am I buying and no testers at counters at all; I picked up these. When I swatched it at home, I was like OMG.....Holy Cow these were textures!!!!. Thank God, even when in doubt I picked up 6 and why the hell did I leave two ?? :P .

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

Anyawys, I have applied only coat in the pictures and they were sufficient for opacity. The nail polish is dense with glitters and pigmented. I just did touch up with polish at places where I felt my nails peeped. I was so happy. It is half the effort and polish if the lacquer is one coater. A lot of brands promise to be a one coater but 10% are hardly true. I am glad this is. And one should also avoid layering a textured polish with coats because it kills the textured effect. The drying was amazing. Usually thicker polishes takes ages to dry. But this dried out so quickly. It also claims to have 'Color Dry Technology' which I believe now. The staying isn't bad but not very brilliant either. I saw the polish receeding a tiny bit (which is a too much for me because I don't like sloppy nails) in a day or two. I think this is beacuse the polish is very dry and no top coat.

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

All the pictures are taken without top coat. The polish dries up to be gritty and like a sand paper finish. I would not call them totally textured. I have China Glaze Textured and these polishes are closely textured but not as bumpy. The gritty uneven feeling is due to shimmers and glitters. But at this price and color it is too good. and most importantly it is available in India :) . I am happy we are slowly coming up to the nail trends. I am sick of asking my friends travelling to US of getting polish because I can't find them here.

Maybelline Color Show Glitter Mania Red Carpet Review

Over All Rating : 5/5 . Must Must Must have. If you are as scared of red as I am , please go for this. One of the best reds in my stash.

Do you own any Glitter mania yet? Which is your favourite?

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

June 04, 2014 Setu 24 Comments

Finally, after going through an ocean of inspiration but zero motivation I am here with my "Inspired By Movie Nail Art". I am very fascinated by doing inspiration manis these days and they bring the best out of me :). But somehow I was not very enthusiastic about doing a Mani inspired by movie. The concept is right and I have done movie inspired nails in past; Up Movie and Despicable Me. But this time I was short of ideas and execution plan.

LifeOfPiMovie-1024x768

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

Anyways, after lots of push and brainstorming I settled with Life Of Pi. Actually it was suggested by my husband to do a 'Life of Pi' inspired mani. He sent me few images of tigers through out the day so that I could pick up cues and practice. But with office , home and blog ; I frankly fail to devote time practicing. I know it's too bad. And I am working on it.

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

I was so tired after work and this mani drained out my life :P . It was so difficult to get the tiger and his angry expression. And that too squeezed to a nail size. Pheww!! I really what I did and how I did this, numerous permutations and combinations. And now I have forgotten which technique did I settle for at last.It was all jumbled up.Maybe also, it was not my day. You know one of the days where the brush, paint and ideas all revolt against you.

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

As far as I remember I used NYX Pastel Yellow, Faces Atomic Orange and a golden polish to get the desired color by rough sponging:P. For tiger stripes and face I used Black Acrylic Paint. And can you believe, when I was ready with base and everything what did I find??? My black Acrylic paint had dried up!!!! It is an 'end of life' situation for nail artist. No Black!!! I mixed water and tried to revive a bit of it, but it was of very sub-standard consistency. I had no option however, so I tried my best to use it.

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

And also, after my mani was finished and showed it to my husband, he was not happy with it :( :( . He is my critic and guide; and now displeased by the tiger. He even asked me try again, all over again!! I was like, its 12 at night and I have no energy even go through all that again. I would never attempted this again and given up, had it not worked.

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

I assured him that after I do the top coat, finishing and cleaning ; it will look better. And after all these chores the mani did look a notch or two better. I had messed up my hands, legs and face a lot while doing this nail art. Yes, I had acrylic paints and nail paints all over my body!!.And I have no clue how??

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

Well, at the end this is how it came out. I am not sure if you will adore it or like it or appreciate my art. But one thing I assure you with anyone who has ever tried doing a tiger, that too on both hands will appreciate my efforts and sweat:)

Life of Pi Inspired Nail Art

Pls do let me know how you feel about this and if there was any thing I could have done to make it better.
