Fleur-De-Lis Pattern Inspired Nails

January 28, 2015 Setu 2 Comments

Hi Girls, as ravishing as your base polish may be; left on its own it starts to haunt you asking for nail art in a while. Pretty polishes do attract us and while buying we do think- OMG, it’s so pretty that it is beautiful even on its own. But eventually, when you wear them; they scream of nail art within a day of solitude. And you have that insatiable craving of doing atleast a ‘little something’ on it. This always happens with me. No polish looks good enough on its own after maximum a day of application.

Alanna Renee Witchling Nailpolish Swatch

The same happened to me when I applied ‘Witchling from Alanna Renne that I reviewed here. In my mind the polish seemed so complete in itself and even on my nails. But a few hours later I got an itch to do ‘little something’ on it. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew it had to be in Orange.

Fleur-De-Lis Pattern Inspired Nails

The Orange hex from the polish needed some more orange company. And I knew even a little ‘Orange’ art would just make my nails look ‘popping’. So with brush in my hand already dipped in Orange acrylic paint and a fraction of second to finalise the design before the paint dried on brush, I zeroed on “Fleur-de-Lis’ pattern.

Fleur-De-Lis Pattern Inspired Nails

I have always loved those patterns. They are commonly seen on cotton Kurtis or Sarees in India. I had been wishing for a stamping plate with this design for so long. The wait was so long that eventually I ended up drawing it on my own. And now I am thinking I was a fool to wait, they look pretty even free hand.

Fleur-De-Lis Pattern Inspired Nails

Even after finishing the pattern on each nail, my Fleur-De-Lis didn’t seem like complete. Let me say it felt like the pattern did not end neatly or did not have a defined crisp end. Whenever in such dilemma I always turn towards Rhinestones or Glitter hexes and they seldom disappoint me.

Fleur-De-Lis Pattern Inspired Nails

I used these Rhinestones I got from http://BornPrettystore.com for review. They are great and complete almost any pattern. I am already planning to order a second one. If you wish to order from BPS , use my coupon code HQBQ10 to get a 10% discount site wide.

This is my first Fleur-De-Lis pattern and I am thrilled sharing it with you. Do let me know if you are even half thrilled seeing it.

Republic Day Nail Art

January 25, 2015 Setu 7 Comments

Hi friends, I finally managed to do my Republic Day Nails for Republic Day celebrated in India on 26th January. I always miss doing nails important days. On almost all such days when you should be dead without nail art, I am surprisingly and shamelessly alive with 'Nude Nails'!! Even on my last birthday, I was nude nails, and that's a shame!!

Republic Day Nail Art

For a change I am wearing a nail art I am supposed to for this 'Republic Day'. I did a stamping nail art which is not something new ofcourse. What is new is that I used two colors for stamping. I know its not a rocket science but I missed on trying it before.

Republic Day Nail Art

Its not perfect but decent for a first timer using two colors for stamping. Its a calculation starting from which polish you brush on plate image first to which part of image you pick first while rolling your stamper head.

Republic Day Nail Art

I used Sally Hansen White On as a base. For stamping I used Street Wear Green Polish and Salon Perfect Traffic Cone. The plate I used is Moyou London Tourist Plate.

Republic Day Nail Art

I used some Neon Studs on my accent nail to pop it up. This is my favorite nail. I bordered the Asoka Chakra on my accent with neon studs I got from http://BornPrettystore.com for review.

Republic Day Nail Art

If you decide on buying them , you can utilize my coupon code HQBQ10 to get a 10% off sitewide.

Republic Day Nail Art

How do guuys find my nail art? The inpiration for this nail art is ofcourse drawn from the Tri-Color Flag. I am glad how they turned out. Let me know your thoughts on it.

Floral in Neon Nail Art

January 23, 2015 Setu 16 Comments

Hi Girls, I have been loving both the Salon Perfect Nail that my friend Trupti got from US. Both Salon Perfect Flamingo Flair and Traffic Cone are rocking neons. And trust me I am just looking for reasons to use them since the day I got them.

Floral in Neon Nail Art

As much as I love Flamingo Flair for its phunk, I avoid wearing flashy (this is what World would call it, but I would say ‘Happy’) color to work. But it was a week I got it and I was missing it on my nails. Finally it was Thursday Evening and I decided to wear it to work on Friday. I mean , its okay even if it is a color not be worn at work, it is Friday so ‘Permission Granted’!!.

Floral in Neon Nail Art

The polish is absolute creamy in formula. It dries upto a glossy finish. It like a neon peach color but doesn't make your fingers look dark, I don’t know how to describe this color. It belongs to orange family but definitely not neon orange. As much as it is difficult to describe the color,I faced a bigger challenge capturing this color.

Floral in Neon Nail Art

Floral in Neon Nail Art

Oh My!! I struggled a lot and all efforts were futile. I just could not trap the color in my camera. But I have made attempts, lets see.I did free hand flowers with acrylic paints. I LOVED the flowers. Actually I LOVED the polish too. So, all in all I double LOVED the nail art.

[caption id="attachment_4613" align="alignnone" width="556"]Floral in Neon Nail Art I applied filter for this pic, but this is nearest what Flamingo Flair looks like[/caption]

I really enjoyed looking at them. The nail art on my right hand chipped off even before I could click it. Thanks to Mr. Seche Vite who dries polish incredibly fast but chips them off too.

Floral in Neon Nail Art

Anyways, does this nail art make you happy? It sure made me a happy bird the day I wore it. The color is neon which is loud but the flowers are so delicate and feminine.I enjoyed watching them blend with each other. It was such a South and North Match. What do think girls?

Alanna Renne Witchling Review and Swatch

January 21, 2015 Setu 0 Comments

Hi Beauties, since I am off Challenges for a while, I am taking this opportunity to try out all my untried polishes. These are the polishes to buy which I got on my knees, took so much effort myself and troubled my friend in Australia too. It was like my breath would stop if I didn’t buy them. And now they are lying in stash for almost an year and I have still lot of them untouched.

Alanna Renne Witchling Review and Swatch

Ok, just because I told you the truth, don’t hate me because we all have stock like that in our stash: P. I am very sure that I am not this mad person alone. And if you do think, that I am the only mad one; please be kind and do not highlight it to me. I feel more sane this way :P.

Alanna Renne Witchling Review and Swatch

Anyways I got this polish from Alanna Renne who sells lovely indie polishes at Alannarenne.com. She offers free shipping within Australia above 50 AUD orders. I have a thing for rich dark royal purple colour, so I just jumped to add this polish to my cart. Direct link to polish is this.

Alanna Renne Witchling Review and Swatch

Price and Quantity: It is available at 7.99 AUD and quantity is 12-13 ml I guess. The polish is 5 Free and handmade.

Colour and Formula: It is deep royal purple in colour with purple and bright orange matte hexes and silver shimmers. The moment you see this polish you will relate to the name ‘Witchling’. There is something very deeply mysterious about how this polish looks. It looks wicked and evil with a haunted story folded in it. I love such bright dark purple and I feel something royal and majestic about them.

Alanna Renne Witchling Review and Swatch

I applied a black base (one coat) and them two coats of Witchling to get full opacity. The glitter pay off is good as it is loaded with them. I didn’t have to go hunting or fishing for them. The finish was smooth and not bumpy due to glitters.

Mostly I have clicked without a top coat but a few swatches are with top coat. I would be specifying them.

Alanna Renne Witchling Review and Swatch

Overall Rating: I love this polish. This is one of the favourite Indies in my stash. As a brand also I have close to 8 polishes from Alanna Renne and they have not disappointed me at all. These polishes are quite good esp if you look at the price and quality. I have reviewed Hedwig and Butterbeer and you could check them. The colour is great along with finish and glitter payoff .The polish really makes my hands look rich by a notch or two. I would undoubtedly give it thumbs up 5/5.

What your thoughts on the polish? Do you think the something evil and mysterious about the polish too?

Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art

January 19, 2015 Setu 1 Comments

Hi Sugars, I am sharing a nail art which I did quite impulsively. I went shopping, bought few Kurtis and Bam! did a nail art inspired  by the dress I decided to wear the next day to work. I feel like a free bird as I write this post. As notified earlier I am done with all the challenges for sometime, so that gives creative freedom for a while. Also I chipped a nail on my right hand.

Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art

I was sad intially and used the Tea-Bag Method to keep the nail alive for 15 days or so. But then it became tedious and since it was my working hand the tea bag would wear off every other day. So with a heavy heart I chopped my nails on cindy and bid farewell to them gracefully :(.

Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art

But eversince then I feel doing nail art has become easier and the time taken has been slashed to less than half. Ideally it should be just half with only one hand less, but its less than half here. When your right hand is also busy drying polish, you are practically handicapped. I have a full time job so doing nail art is a real crunch of time. By the time I finish my nail art its dinner time and I cant even break chappati with wet polish.Neither can I keep the polishes back, nor take out lighthouse for clicking picture, nor have my dinner and ofcourse can’t go to pee either. Also doing nail art on my Right Hand with my Non Dominant hand takes double the effort and time. Doing nail art with your dominant hand is hell lot easier.

Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art

Anyways, I am not endorsing nails on only hand but it’s easy definelty. Plus my hands look so alien without nails. I have a habit of lookimg at my nails when I type at work and the sight of a pretty nail art would delight me. But now my right is ugly and repulsive with no nails and nailart.

[caption id="attachment_4603" align="alignnone" width="585"]Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art Nail Art Inspired by my Kurti in Background[/caption]

Also, I can finally wear white on my nails without dreading the Turmeric Stain on my Right nails while eating my food. So the base used in this nail art is Sally Hansen White On, it’s the best white in my stash. For stamping I used Konad Orange special polish.

Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art

The stamping plate is Moyou London Fashionista. To make the nail art coherent with the print of my Kurti I wanted to use some blue elements. I decided to settle down at my favorite accessory- ‘Rhinestone’. I used blue rhinestone and nail glue for this. I think it sort of completes the look. My nail art and Kurti looks –‘Made for Each Other’ . My frinds complimented me that it nailart looks like cut out of the fabric of Kurti.

Inspired by My Kurti Nail Art

I am very happy with them. What also excited me was the minimal time lag between the idea conceived and implemented. I thought of it while purchasing the Kurti and did the nail art as soon as I reached home. The damask pattern I used for stamping is exact match of my Kurti which is miraculous. I will say this was a match made in Heaven.

What do you feel? Have you done an impulsive nail art and felt equally happy? Do you also feel that keeping nails and doing nail art on both hands is extremely difficult? Leave your views in comments.

Discussion on NailArt Challenges and Pink Filigree NailArt

January 16, 2015 Setu 18 Comments

Hello Fireflies, finally I am off all challenges and feeling light and feeling un-burdened. I am in bit of a discussion and debate mood today. So here is my topic- Should one Participate in Nail Art Challenge?? I will be sharing a pretty in Pink Nail Art too. So it isn't going to be a dull discussion :)

Pink Filigree Nail Art

I participated in hell lot of challenges last few months and apart from being exhausted there is something that I have learnt about them for sure. I am going to share them with you. I am no expert to say anything that I am saying, it just my experience and point of view. And I am totally open for a debate on this.

Pink Filigree Nail Art

While doing challenges there is constant conflict between your mind and heart. Your heart gives you all colorful and playful ideas to experiment but your mind constantly keeps reminding you that the nail art at the end should stick to the theme. Very obviously now, whichever party wins- Mind or Heart your nailart is not going to give you 100% pleasure because either the voice of heart or brain must have been ignored. This brings me to my key learning: Always chose a prompt which you have genuinely wanted to do or something which would have never occurred you but will challenge you. So you will be satisfied with the end result.

Pink Filigree Nail Art

Without challenge prompts giving me instructions, I can do any random design that catches my fancy and inspires me. I can just conceive an idea and translate it onto my nails immediately without worrying whether it tallies the theme.

Pink Filigree Nail Art

However, it also means I am going to go be gazing and wondering for hours on what design/polish/technique/finish/color/plates etc should I use?I have spent futile hours sitting and wondering what to do, which polish, brand, finish, tried, untried, color combination, inspiration, experiment etc and other gazillion questions .

Whereas, Challenges give some certainty and direction to our work. It allows you to have structured thought. It forces your brain to think in a particular direction. It may push you to explore areas which you would have never otherwise. Some of best manis which I would have never tried on my own are boons of challenges. So, it just depends on you how you use it? Use it or Abuse it?

What are your thoughts about Challenges? Have they given you more than taken?

Pink Filigree Nail Art

PS: The Nailart I have shared is done used BarryM Promanade Limited Edition and stamped with SinfulColor Snow Me White. To Beautify it I added Rhinestone from BornPrettyStore here. They had sent me this for review. They added glamour to my nail art. You can use my discount code HQBQ10 to get 10% discount sitewide.

Some De-Cluttering and BPS Stamping Plate Storage Review

January 14, 2015 Setu 0 Comments

Hi Girls, How are you all? How is Year 2015 treating you? I hope well. This post is to share BPS Stamping Plate Organiser and my thoughts. Off late I have been more inclined towards items that make my life easy and less cluttered. Nail Polish and Nail Art Tools/Decorations still make me feel weak in knees. But over the period of time I have realized, there is no fun with all this if my life is mess. Not ‘Life’ literally but ‘Polish Life’. So I started investing and looking for things which help me organize them.

BornPretty Store Stamping Organiser

I started with very small things like Organizing my Stash, moving to a dedicated wardrobe so that there is no polish hunting, using Lint Roller for stampers instead of acetone, using an app for maintaining Polish Inventory (WIP), using Lighthouse and likewise. I packed all my brush to a pen holder kind of basket. Earlier I had them packed in various pouches in which they came and pick up one after the other. I also made a cleanup basket. All I have to do is pick it after every nail art and I have everything required for cleanup and priming for photographs. Trust me it makes your life easy without spoiling your polish on Cindy. I mean what’s the point of heaps of polish, plates, decals, accessories, brushes etc if it’s not a luxurious experience to use them. I feel the easier it is, the more I use them, the more I wanna do nail art. Otherwise it becomes a struggle and a task. “A Total Put Off”.

BornPretty Store Stamping Organiser

Anyways there is one more item which de-cluttered my plate mess. I started with a Freehand artist, so I had very few plates. Managing them was easy. I got Moyous which come in pouch so storing is no problem. Then I got BM CYO 2013 which was in box so manageable. Along with it recently, I got Winstonia Second Generation which also comes in box and Pueen Buffet Set which comes in pink plate holder so I was set. Along with them I also got Mash 50-75 set which was a gift from my friend Manisha (http://followmanimatters.blogspot.com/). Now they came in loose cellophane pouches each. This is when I started using the Stamping Plates Organiser sent to me for review by BornPrettyStore.

BornPretty Store Stamping Organiser

I got a pink Storage pouch and it has 24 sleeves to hold plates. I unpacked my Mash plates out the cellophane and arranged them in the pouch. It comes with lock button so that your plates don’t move outside. To browse the plates you just have to pull out the sleeves and they arrange themselves like a hand fan pattern, allowing you to view all your plates.

BornPretty Store Stamping Organiser

Browsing plates was never easier. I super like this and it has made browsing and deciding plates very easy, even with wet polish :P. I am sure gonna order many more and with my ever increasing plates collection I definitely need one. If you want to buy this, you can get it here at $5.29 . Also by using my coupon code HQBQ10 you can enjoy a 10% discount site wide :)

BornPretty Store Stamping Organiser

Let me know how you de-clutter your polish life?? This is very important for me as I am in that frame of mind now. Share you de-clutter tips with me.

Floral Nail Art

January 13, 2015 Setu 1 Comments

Hello Friends, how are you? I hope well. Life is like usual this side, no excitment and no fun (till the time I buy polish)!. I bough few Sinful Color polishes last week and it did make me happy for a while, actually a week long!! Now , I am bored again :( . I think I need to get a few more polishes to keep life moving.

Floral Nail Art

This nail art is not done keeping any challenge in mind. All I had in my mind was I had to pick an unused polish and do nail art on it. No thinking! Just pick and see where your brushes take you. I think till I force myself this way, my unused polishes are going to be unused till eternity :(.

Floral Nail Art

I used Avon Simply Pretty Serene . It is a very pretty serene lavender color. I have many lavender - purple polishes and frankly I am not a purple person. But this polish is something different. I love this kinna dreamy purple.I may not be able to explain the difference but trust me it is.

I used acrylic paints to draw the flowers and leaves and twigs. I used some loose holo glitter powder and touched on the petals to bring bling to them.

Floral Nail Art

Now I think I did two mistakes in this nail art. First, I made a teal polish for flower petals which stood out poorly on the purple base. I wish I has used a brighter contrast. I felt so stupid, just because of a wrong choice the nail art is down by two notch :(.

The Second mistake I did was using loose glitter powder. The loose glitters flew and stuck outside the petals on few nails. I think I should have never used glitter in first place, the bling isn't doing any good to petals either. I should have used glitter polish on petals if at all I needed bling.

Floral Nail Art

Anyways, we learn from our mistakes and I am sure you will learn from mine.I hope you still like the nail art. It is definelty not a fail nail art and I like it. It is just not what I had concieved in my mind :)

Nails Inspired By My Shirt

January 10, 2015 Setu 19 Comments

Hi Girls,I am off from Challenges these days and also off from painting my right hand (which used to consume 3/4th of my time :P). A nail on my Cindy chipped and I had to let them go. So now I am away from the leash of prompts, and I am just enjoying doing any thing that inspires me.Mostly my inspiration draws from my dresses and patterms/prints of dresses people around me. They are zillion to the power infinity incredible patterns and designs for me to try just by observing things around me but I have only 10 fingers.

Nails Inspired By My Shirt

Anyways, I had been on a short break to a beach resort last week. While returning to Mumbai, instead of parking the car at our home, we parked it a mall and did shopping to make the holiday sweeter.I picked up 7 Kurtis and 4 Shirts. And I am in mood for a nail art inspired by my dress every time I wear them :).

Nails Inspired By My Shirt

So I wore a new Shirt wth my Jeans as it was Friday. I loved the Shirt and entire get up. I loved my self in it. The other thing about this nail art is that,it is also inspired by one my friends Ramie from (@_lifeisnails_). She is an amazing nail artist. I always love her work for crispness and perfection. Even simplest of the design look edgy the way she does it. I saw this plaid nail art on her IG few months back. And I so wanted to do it but time passed and memory faded.

Nails Inspired By My Shirt

But the moment I saw this shirt and decided to do nailart to match print of this shirt, I was sure of what I wanted to do. Fortunately, her nail art was also in the same color combination as my shirt. It was like Made for Each Other. Just Perfect. Hence, my nailart is actually a ‘Double Inspiration’- Inspired by both Shirt and Ramie.

 NailArt Inspired by my Shirt

I did not modify her design a bit. Both because it was too good and it was exact replica of my Shirts Print. The only alteration I have done is used a ‘Mattifying Top Coat’ and used Beige instead of White; as it suited my dress more. It was my husbands suggestion to mattify this nail art. And I am so glad I took it. The finish of nailart looks more ‘Cotton Fabric’ Type. It looks like a piece of my shirt wrapped on my nail. The inspiraion looks even more real with Matte Effect.

 NailArt Inspired by my Shirt

The polishes I used are – Essence Redvolution (Red) , Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (Blue) and Envy Laminate Me (Beige). For black I used acrylic paints. I mattified it with Wet and Wild Matte Top Coat. The entire work is freehand and is done my striping brush.

NailArt Inspired by my Shirt

I am very pleased with the way it turned out. The fact that it is matching exact replica the dress I am wearing, makes it so unique and stylish. I got so many compliments to it. A hard work really pays off if you have some good words from people around. Sweet words and compliments make all the effort worthwhile. Also, Ramie whose nail art inspired me, LOVES it. So all in all, I am a girl today :).

NailArt Inspired by my Shirt

What do you guys have to say about this?
