Nails for New Year 2016

December 31, 2015 Setu 1 Comments

Hiee All, so it’s another year which just passed by! And we are here to welcome another year with lots of enthusiasm, hope and resolutions. In my case, a new nail art too is added to the welcome platter! Lol.

[caption id="attachment_6287" align="alignnone" width="600"]Nails for New Year 2016 In Natural Light[/caption]

I have super blingy nails today using my most sparkly polish – King Midas from Starrily. I had a totally different nail art in my mind. I was planning neon pink and bright purple colors as base. And I actually did a base coat and applied 2coats of the polish on all 10 fingers. I didn’t stop here; I stamped a delicate pattern on all nails as I was thinking of double stamping.

Nails for New Year 2016

Just before stamping the final image doing second round of stamping, I felt the nails are bright but they don’t look ‘New Year’. I did not want to do a So-So Sub-standard job. So with a brave heart I held my breath, and removed all the work. Yes, Base Coat + 2 Layers of polish + 1 Layer of Stamping!!Sob Sob!

Nails for New Year 2016

And then I turned towards my hero of blings! – Starrily : King Midas. It is an ultra holo polish which is insanely sparkly and distracting. This is was just what I needed for my New Year Nails. I wasn’t worried a lot on images I use but the spirit it exudes. And the gold ultra holo seemed just right.

Nails for New Year 2016

I used Uber Chic Set 06-01 for stamping. They are recent proud possession. Stamping polish is Konad Special Black and Bright Pink Ya Qin An (Polish #15) from BornPrettyStore. You can buy them here and enjoy a 10% off with code HQBQ10.

I hope you enjoyed watching my new years as much as I love wearing them. Pour in your thoughts! And before signing off from this post , wish you a very very happy and beautiful New Year!

Flowers on Holo Nails

December 30, 2015 Setu 0 Comments

Hello Friends, how have you been? I am so upset due to the dry spell in my creative idea pond for a quite some time now. I am just not able to imagine or churn out anything worth. Urrrghh!! And this feeling is driving me mad. Anyways, I turn to floral when I am out of ideas because they never(read almost never)  let you down.

Flowers on Holo Nails

And that’s what I did today. However, I am not very happy with the floral I did today. But that’s that. Not all days are good.

Flowers on Holo Nails

The base is El Corazon Prisma 30 from my beloved El Corazon. How so ever shitty the brand and the Art Director is; the polish is good. But unless you want to wait for a month to get your polish shipped, get humiliated by the Art Director for asking about shipment and then get polishes only after 2 months to see that only half your order is delivered, please don’t bother ordering from there.

El Corazon Prisma 30

I am refraining from wasting my precious words on the polish because my experience with them has left a sour unforgettable taste. The polish is pretty though, as you can see in the swatch.

El Corazon Prisma 30 Swatch

I used acrylic paint for the flowers which I got from BornPretty Store for review. I use them for almost all my freehand nail art. You can buy them here and get a flat 10% off with coupon code HQBQ10.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Collection Review and Swatches

December 27, 2015 Setu 1 Comments

Hello fireflies, how are you doing today? I am bright and glowing with the Scuba Loha :).So I have a picture heavy, words heavy and awesomeness heavy post for you . I have been eyeing this collection for a long time but always missed on laying hands on them. After a long wait today I finally have these babies to show you! It is a Set of 8 polishes out f which I got 7 (which are crèmes) and I let go the Rainbow colour glitter dot topper.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Swatches

This set contains 7 pastel brights or pastel neons which all glow in dark!! It has ‘THE’ 2 things that make me Ga-ga over a collection: Bright Pastels and GID. Someone just heard me and made this. I will conclude my review about this collection after I have shown you the swatches.

[caption id="attachment_6250" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Swatches Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Swatches in Dark[/caption]

About the Collection : Scubaloha is a portmanteau of scuba and aloha! This collection consists of seven gorgeous glow-in-the-dark pastel cremes and one rainbow glitter topper! These sizzling summer polishes are named after gorgeous indigenous Hawaiian reef fishes.

OMILU (As per the site), is a powder blue creme with a bright blue glow. It is named after the Bluefin Trevally (C. melampygus), which have identifying electric blue fins, tapered snout, and numerous black and blue spots on their sides. The Omilu is one of the two most prized fish from the Hawaiian islands.

[caption id="attachment_6223" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Omilu Swatch Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Omilu[/caption]

It is a pleasant pastel blue which is very soothing to eyes. The finish of these polishes is a bit matte and gritty. The reason may be the glow in dark pigments.

[caption id="attachment_6224" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Omilu Swatch Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha Omilu in Dark[/caption]

In the dark the polish glows brilliant blue. I mean I was pleasantly surprised (read mesmerised) with the intensity of the glow. No doubt it is one of my favourites in the collection.

HINALEA LAUWILI (As per the Site), is a pastel spring green creme with a teal green glow. It is named after the Saddle Wrasse (T. duperrey), and while endemic, is one of the most numerous and most common species in the Hawaiian waters. Initial phase male and female adults have a blue-green head with an orange band that intensifies during spawning. The rest of the body is blue-green with narrow magenta vertical lines. The Hinalea Lauwili have an interesting social life! Successful supermales spawn with up to 20 females a day, while females spawn at most once a day with any male they fancy, often returning to the same partner.

This looked perfect bright pistachio colour to me, like someone just added neon element to a dull pistachio green.

[caption id="attachment_6227" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha HINALEA LAUWILI Swatch in dark Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha HINALEA LAUWILI Swatch in Dark[/caption]

It glows teal like in dark. I love the glow colour of this one, it’s so different. I haven’t come across a teal glowing polish yet.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha HINALEA LAUWILI Swatch

LAU WILIWILI (As per the site), is a pastel creamsicle yellow creme with a neon yellow glow. It is named after the Milletseed (or Lemon) Butterflyfish (C. militaris), which is one of the most recognized butterflyfish in the Hawaiian waters. They have a beautiful yellow body with black dots arranged in vertical rows, and a black mask and black spot near the tail! This species is endemic to Hawaii.

The moment my husband saw me wearing this, he said it reminds him of a Mango Smoothie. That’s when I thought it looked more like a mango smoothie yellow than cream yellow. I would not say it is pure yellow because it has slight touch of pale orange.

[caption id="attachment_6230" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha LAU WILIWILI Swatch in Dark Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha LAU WILIWILI in Dark[/caption]

It glows bright neon yellow in dark though, no touch of orange. This one is so bright that after charging it looks like my nails are emitting light.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha LAU WILIWILI Swatch

LAU'I PALA (As per the site), is a pastel lemony yellow green creme, with a bright lime glow! It is named after the Yellow Tang (Z. flavescens), one of the top ten most popular marine aquarium species. It has a vibrant (almost neon) yellow body with a disk-shaped appearance, very curious and active all day. This species is commonly found and indigenous to Hawaii.

[caption id="attachment_6233" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Scuba Loha LAU'I PALA Swatch Doctor Scuba Loha LAU'I PALA[/caption]

‘Neon Lime Green’: The best three words to describe this peppy polish. Just that it is a bit mellow and less harsh than proper neon because they are ‘pastels’. I like ‘Pastel neons’ over ‘neons’ any day because they are more wearable.

[caption id="attachment_6234" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Scuba Loha LAU'I PALA SwatchIn dark Doctor Scuba Loha LAU'I PALA In dark[/caption]

But the glow of this polish is truly loud and neon green. I so loved it. It is a full on neon parrot green in dark.

Doctor Scuba Loha LAU'I PALA Swatch

NOHU (As per the site), is a pastel peach/coral creme with an orange glow. It is named after the Titan Scorpionfish (S. cacopsis), which can either be cute or scary, depending on who's looking. These are ambush predators that can camouflage to match their surroundings (their bellies remain orange), while they wait patiently for their prey. They have a broad tapering head, colored orange with ornate pattern of black lines and multicolored flecks. These spearheading fish species is endemic to Hawaii.

[caption id="attachment_6237" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha NOHU Swatches Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha NOHU[/caption]

It is extremely pleasant peach neon in colour. A sweeter, softer and more peach version of the much raved about China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. I really loved this color. I have 5 Pastel Peach neons of the season: Orly Push the Limit, Salon Perfect Flamingo Flair, Orly Freestyle, China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy and Colo Club Hot Hot Hot Pants. And Nohu wins them all with its sweetness and peachiness, if you can get what I am saying. It was the most difficult to photograph. The true colours just refuse to come in my camera.

[caption id="attachment_6238" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha NOHU Swatches in Dark Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha NOHU in Dark[/caption]

It glowed more of Yellow peach than peach yellow. The glow was pale orange yellow in dark. However, the glow of Nohu and Kumu are different from the rest is what I cans say. They don’t glow in flat colors, they have some sparkles or micro particles along with that glow along. This effect is stronger in Kumu, it looks starry. I am not sure if I can explain correctly but may be the pictures will.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha NOHU Swatches

KUMU (As per the site), is a bright pastel pink creme with a peachy glow. It is named after the male White Saddle Goatfish (P. porphyreus), which are named for their two whisker-like projections on their jaw and the white spot at the base of their tail. Bright pink overall with a small white oval on each side of the caudal peduncle and dark stripes extending rearward from the eye, juveniles are greenish-brown above. Their body coloring changes depending on whether the fish is active or resting.

[caption id="attachment_6240" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha KUMU Swatches Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha KUMU[/caption]

This is perfect pink neon which looks least pastel to me. It can easily match the phunk of a Neon Pink. Again like Nohu, it is very sweet yet bright. This makes your hand look tan instantly.

[caption id="attachment_6241" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha KUMU Swatches Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha KUMU in Dark[/caption]

The glow of Kumu is peachy Orange. And as I said above it looks like some particles sparkle from within the polish in dark. It gives a different dimension to the polish when glowing.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha KUMU Swatches

UHU ULIULI (As per the site), is a lavender creme with a deep purple glow. It is named after the male Spectacled Parrotfish (C. perspicillatus), which are generally blue with a lavender belly, and have purple overlay in their scale margins. They are easily identified by their parrot beak like appearance, and are endemic to Hawaii! Like the rest of the Wrasse family, they show different color patterns depending on their age and sex.

[caption id="attachment_6244" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha UHU ULIULI Swatches Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha UHU ULIULI[/caption]

This is a sweet lavender color which is again bright but pastel. I am not a purple/lavender person but this one is a rare one because it managed to impress me. It makes my hands look so delicate and classy. The usual lavenders that I have seen always seemed to be lifeless or bland. This one is so full of life and intense in color.

[caption id="attachment_6245" align="alignnone" width="600"]Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha UHU ULIULI Swatches Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha UHU ULIULI in Dark[/caption]

Well, as much I am impressed with this lavender in day light; I must say this is the only polish that disappointed me in dark. They are very good, don’t get me wrong. But it is not keeping up with its peers which glow brilliantly in little charging. It took longer charging time and the glow was not as bright. I give it that the glow is dark violet/purple so obviously it won’t glow as bright as others. But having swatched its siblings in dark, the expectation set from GID is quite high. I can tell you my next Glow in dark polish has to fight harder to impress me because Scuba Loha put the benchmark so high.

Doctor Lacquer Scuba Loha UHU ULIULI Swatches

Overall I am extremely impressed with the collection. I found it worth every penny. They are amazing set of colors in day light and glow impressively in dark. Most of GID just glow neon green in dark but here each color glows differently. And the glow is quite intense. I have done some interesting nail art on this GID set ; which I will be sharing shortly on my blog.

You can own these polishes at http://doctorlacquer.storenvy.com/ . I hope you enjoyed the swatches and most definitely are impressed with it. Let me know your thoughts.

BornPretty Store Chameleon Polish 205 Swatches and Review

December 23, 2015 Setu 1 Comments

Hi Girls, I have another BornPretty Store Chameleon polish for review today. I got great response from the last one, so thought why not delight you with another one. They are basically brilliant Multi Chrome Polishes by BornPretty Store.

BornPretty Store Chameleon Polish 205 Swatches and Review

These polishes cannot be worn alone and need a black undie. This was a minor setback for me earlier but once I applied the polish, its beauty made it seem all worth.

BornPretty Store Chameleon Polish 205 Swatches and Review

As you can see the polish shifts from deep aubergine to Magenta to green and gold at times. Like the previous one, I did not have bend and twist my hand to uneven positions to capture the effect. The colour shift is very evident and smooth.

BornPretty Store Chameleon Polish 205 Swatches and Review

I am greatly impressed and pleasantly surprised by this line of polishes from BornPretty Store. As I mentioned in my previous review, if I had to point out something I did not like it would be the cap and the brush. I can’t deal with square brush of short length. But maybe that’s only me.

You can own these polishes here and also get a 10% off with coupon code HQBQ10. They are priced at $12.88 for 6ml. If you pay a little attention you can grab them at almost half the price when BPS has sales.

Beach Nails

December 20, 2015 Setu 4 Comments

Hello Surfers, again an out of season post but who cares!! Hah Hah, I feel like going to the beach so will let my nails shout for it! So I used my artistic powers so get some beach fun on my nails.

Beach Nails

I had been planning to do this nail art for very long time. Few months back I developed a crush on Beach Nail charms like shells, snails, starfish etc. But I could not quickly lay my hands on it through any portal. I located it in BPS and Ali Express and both would take a month to deliver, killing the joy of achieving it.

Beach Nails

So I decided on hunting on some local and quick options. With prayers in mind and deep faith in heart, I entered the most resourceful craft store in my locality (actually I travelled like 10 km to find this so not in my locality technically!!). And I found mini shells and snails that they sold for craft. I wanted it to be further small so that they look good in proportion of nails. But these are all they had.

Beach Nails

I hand picked the smallest of shell and snail to use for my mani and I think they are not sized too big. I did a gradient of OPI My vampire is a Buff, Sally Hansen Blue Me Away and Sally Hansen Pacific Blue. I gently dabbed some glitters on gradient for sparkly effect of sea, but they are barely visible.I stamped each like of white wave using Mash plates and the other images too. Both white and Black stamping polish is from Nail Matinee. Then I added the snail and shell with IBD Gel resin and they stayed for 2 days. And popped off when I went to pool and stayed there for 2 hours. LOL. Look how impressive they look when I clicked them in Pool.

[caption id="attachment_6214" align="alignnone" width="598"]In Pool picture of my Beach Nails In Pool picture of my Beach Nails[/caption]

My dad was super impressed with my nails and it made me so happy. He was so proud that he was calling everyone and showing. I am paid for all the effort I took!! What do you think girls? How are they?

Zoya Pixie Dust Swatches: Carter, SunShine, Dhara and Solange

December 18, 2015 Setu 1 Comments

Hi girls, how are you? May be you would think I am mad to suddenly swatch an old collection of Zoya from nowhere. I know it may be uncalled since these polishes released 2 years back. Yes, and that’s exactly the age of my polishes too lying in my stash. These were brutally ignored and unused. Suddenly something struck last week and I swatched Zoya Carter. I was so much in love with it that I hated myself for not using them for so long. I got addicted to these Pixies and finished all swatches in a week straight.

Zoya Pixie Dust Swatches - Carter, Solange, Dhara , Sunshine

So, with all guilt in heart for not sharing before; I have ‘Zoya Carter’. I am taking a deep breath and a pause as I write this because I am short of words to explain this correct. Let me try. This is the most bold royal purple I have seen. The color may not have done the magic alone. But the texture and magenta shimmers peeping from inside the polish take it to the top.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Carter Swatch

There is royalness( I don’t know if it’s a word) and elegance exuding out of the polish. The magenta and purple bling along with the gritty texture is a super combination. It looked sheer since it’s full of glitters and shimmers only but I could achieve opaque look in usual 2 coats.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Carter Swatch

Next is ‘ Zoya Solange’ which is gold yellow textured polish. I am confused if I should say this is ‘Gold Yellow’ or ‘Yellow Gold’!. It is totally gold in color but not very saturated. It leans towards yellow more than orange. It is a different gold undoubtedly. If you buy 20 Gold Polish randomly from best brands; it is very unlikely something will be near to it.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Solange Swatch

Color wise it is a light gold, more of yellow gold. It is full of gold sparkle. I did not apply any top coat on it. It was opaque in 2 coats.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Solange Swatch

Next is ‘Zoya Sunshine’ which is like Sapphire Blue. It is a dusty royal blue if I can say so, with a lot of silver shimmer. It looks like a starry night sky in real sense.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Solange Swatch

There is no Top Coat used and it was opaque in 2 coats. I am thinking now, may be one was good enough too.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Solange Swatch

Last up is ‘Zoya Dhara’ which is my favourite. Actually there is tough competition between Zoya Carter and Dhara. I love both equally, I can’t pick one. Dhara is royal coppery orange in colour. It has all the charm and richness packed in it.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Dhara Swatch

It has orange, red and gold shimmer in it. It looks like a Diva of polishes. I swatched it without top coat and it was opaque in 2 coats.

Zoya Pixie Dust - Dhara Swatch

Overall, these are gems that I had in my stash for so long and I kept missing them. I absolutely love them.

Tiger Nails

December 16, 2015 Setu 2 Comments

Good Morning Girls, I am finally picking up pace and trying to use images from my forgotten stamping plates. I am talking about the images which make you swoon and convince yourself to buy the entire set, just because you wanted that one image. But once you acquire the set, all good reasons to buy the plate goes outside the window. Please don’t judge me; I am majority of us do that!!

Tiger Nails
On that note, I used BM CYO 2014 plate set which I bought because I loved the image of Tiger Stripe but never used it till now. Also to lower my guilt quotient I used another untouched beauty – Zoya Pixie Dust Solange for this nailart. How could I miss using these for an year is the question I am asking myself!

Tiger Nails

I wanted to do more for the base of Tiger nails but Zoya Solange just looked so complete that I just survived a simple stamping. What do you think?

Flower in Wood NailArt

December 13, 2015 Setu 0 Comments

The weather is getting colder and drier these days, isn’t it? So it is automatically dropping hints for me to do nails related to fall, autumn, dried leaves, wood and so on. But after seeing the finished work on my nails, now I have totally forgotten on what I intended to do actually. Lol

Flower in Wood NailArt

I had something else in mind for sure. I remember that I definitely wanted the mattified wood log prints on my nails, which I have pretty much got in my end result. Rest I was looking at some autumn leaves when I felt the nail art looked too dry and barren. So I thought some flowers would bring some life and happiness to my nails.

Flower in Wood NailArt

I did try stamping some loose maple leaves (Gradient of yellow, orange and brown) but all together the nail art gave feel of a very gloomy dry weather. I spoilt my accent and middle finger trying the leaves and I was too lazy to remove now, so I just applied Barry M Paprika on them which became base for my new design in mind.

Flower in Wood NailArt

After a lot of failures and trial & Error, I finally had OPI My Vampire is a Buff and Barry M Paprika as my base. I stamped the wood log print using Bundle Monster CYO 2014 Plate 308 with Barry M Paprika. Over them I stamped my flowers from same plate and Born Pretty Stamping Polish – Ya Qin. They are bright Mexican pink in color and stamp perfectly on black. I so love this line of stamping polish. You can buy it here (Polish #15, Item No 21282) and get a 10% off as well with coupon code HQBQ10.

Flower in Wood NailArt

On Barry M Parrika I stamped same flowers with Mundo de Unas ‘Cream’. I mattified the entire nail art then. And just to complete the look and make nail art look complete I added neon pink studs at the centre of the flowers. There may have been a lot of failures and retakes on this nail art but I am quite happy with the outcome. I am glad things went wrong initially, or I would have never landed here. What do you think girls? Was it a good thing I landed here, or leaves would have been better?
